Parviz Doulai was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1953. He received his BSc (Eng) degree in Electrical Engineering in 1977 (Iran), his MSc degree in Power Electronics Engineering in 1981 (England), and his PhD degree in 1991 (Australia). He spent a year at Auckland University (New Zealand) as a Postdoctoral fellow where he was engaged with research and teaching in electric energy systems.
He began his career as a lecturer in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has taught at two Iranian Universities from 1981 to 1986 and worked as a Research Scientist in the R&D Centre of Mobarakeh Steel Complex. In 1986 he joined the University of Queensland as a Teaching Fellow and a PhD candidate. Since Jan. 1992, he has been working at the University of Wollongong, Wollongong, Australia.
In 1994, Parviz established an Internet/Web-based Research and Development setup that is called "Educational Delivery Technologies Laboratory (EDTLab)". The EDTLab's mission is to incorporate state-of-art Internet and Web related technologies into dynamic and interactive processes for educational and industrial applications. Current projects in the EDTLab include e-learning, class-casting, database connectivity, Internet embedded systems, streaming technologies and internet-based data collection and processing.
Parviz won the University of Wollongong VC's Award for Excellence in Teaching and received a Teaching Fellowship Award in 1997 and 1998 respectively. He has published over 40 papers in the area of the educational effectiveness and student acceptance of Internet/Web-based learning resources. Parviz presented keynote talks in a number of local, regional and international conferences, was selected as an "IEEE Sponsored Speaker" for EPE-E=TeM2 Conference (Belgium, 2001), organised and chaired panel discussions on educational technologies, conducted a number of pre-conference workshops at International Conferences such as IEEE Conference on Multimedia in Education, and presented over 50 seminars and demonstrations in Australia and overseas on the topic of Internet/Web technology and applications and technology-enhanced tertiary education, continuing studies and cooperate training.
His main research interests include: Multimedia on Internet and streaming technologies, Web technology and applications, information/educational technologies, Internet embedded systems, energy systems and electric power quality, neural networks and applied engineering education.
Dr Doulai is a member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (IEAust), a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and he is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Australia.
